“Occupational therapy is more than a job. For many it is a calling. We felt drawn to it.”
Amy Lamb, OTD, OT/L, FAOTA
Vision Statement
To be positive through every up and down and never stop taking the opportunity to learn. To seek out the adventure and least common paths. To be motivated, strategic and hard working. To be present in all life’s moments with family, friends, coworkers, creatures of the earth and with myself.
Mission Statement
I am at my best when I am comfortable with the environment in which I am working. I know when comfortable, I am able to be a valuable team member by leading others and developing new ways to do things. I will try to prevent times when I feel unprepared by making sure I do my homework/research before going into situations when I know I will be tested.
Looking short term, I hope to graduate from OT school with enough varied experience to know what setting I would like to practice in and for what reasons. I want to be able to move into the next chapter of my professional life knowing I did everything that I could during my time at Washington University to be the most prepared and best entry level OT that I could be.
I will enjoy my work by finding employment where I can have collaboration with others, be creative, think outside of the box, and not be afraid of failure when I try new things.
I will find enjoyment in my personal life through being spontaneous, trying new foods through experiencing other cultures, talking to those around me, and taking time to relax.
I will find opportunities to use my natural talents and gifts such as art, loyalty positivity, optimism, problem solving and creativity. I can do anything I set my mind to, and I know this to be true based on what I’ve done thus far.
Looking more long term, I would like to travel the world and be an OT to anyone who needs it, not bounded by policies and money. I would like to work in a leadership position by developing a path for myself that may not be the typical path for an OT but one in which I see a need and an ability for myself to apply what I know. In doing this I hope to achieve the most change and good.
My life’s journey is to help build and make a positive impact on as many people as possible. I am becoming an OT so I can help others realize the things they can do in order to live their most productive and satisfying lives. I also strive to show other people the possibilities in the smallest of things. I am doing this for myself because it makes me happy to serve in this way. I am also doing this to be able to help people who may not get these services otherwise.
I will be a person who is nice to all I encounter, seeking to understand others, learning from everything I do, and remaining positive throughout everything. I will strive to incorporate the attributes of courage, humor, and integrity into my life. I will constantly renew myself by closing my eyes and taking a breath, taking time to think to myself and mull over my thoughts, knowing how to separate work and personal life, and leaning on others to grow my support network and to grow bonds with people in similar situations.
